Infrastructure Engineer
£40–60k per year
About the role
Astuco is looking for an experienced Infrastructure Engineer to join our technical team and take ownership of delivering and maintaining resilient private cloud infrastructures. You’ll work hands-on with VMware, Windows and Linux platforms to deliver robust, secure, and high-performing systems for our clients. This role is ideal for engineers who thrive on solving complex infrastructure challenges, implementing best practices, and contributing to reliable, scalable solutions. You will collaborate closely with architects and engineers to translate designs into practical, operational solutions while driving continuous improvement and innovation.
Responsibilities
- Build, manage and troubleshoot VMware-based virtualised environments (vSphere, vSAN, NSX, and related components such as Aria).
- Build, manage and troubleshoot Wintel infrastructure (Windows Server, Active Directory, DNS, Group Policy, PKI).
- Build, manage and troubleshoot Linux infrastructure (RHEL, CentOS) including Ansible, Terraform, Git, Docker, Nexus, SonarQube.
- Install, configure and maintain servers, storage and networking in on-premise and hybrid environments.
- Manage and monitor infrastructure services for high availability, performance and security.
- Participate in infrastructure upgrades, patching and lifecycle management.
- Implement automation/orchestration (PowerShell, Ansible, Terraform) to streamline deployment and management.
- Maintain and review documentation of systems, configurations and processes.
- Stay current with emerging technologies and trends.
Candidate Requirements
- Strong experience delivering enterprise-scale solutions across Windows, Linux and cloud.
- Proven experience deploying and managing VMware environments, ideally VMware Cloud Foundation.
- Good Windows platform services knowledge (AD, DNS, Group Policy, PKI, ADFS, WSUS).
- Experience/understanding of containerisation, identity management, lifecycle management, networking, load balancing and SDN.
- Agile/Scrum experience with DevSecOps tools (Jira, Confluence, Bitbucket, Git).
- Hands-on automation and scripting (PowerShell, PowerCLI, Ansible or similar).
- Excellent problem-solving, analytical and troubleshooting skills.
- Excellent written and verbal communication.
- Familiarity with Zero Trust and CIS/NCSC hardening.
- Relevant certifications (VMware VCP, Microsoft MCSA/MCSE or similar) desirable.
